Six CV Skills That All Employers Are Looking For

Looking for a job can be incredibly disheartening, especially after you’ve applied to hundreds of different positions and still not heard back from any employers. The job market is a competitive place, which means you need to do everything in your power to stand out from the crowd.

More often than not, your CV will be instantly discarded from the pile when it doesn’t meet certain requirements. Therefore, it’s incredibly important that you take your time to tailor your resume to each application.

However, there are a certain set of skills that are transferable across several jobs and that all employers look for when selecting a candidate. To help you get one step closer to your dream job, we’ve curated a list of six CV skills all employers are looking for.

Photoshop

Having a basic understanding of photoshop techniques, such as how to remove background from picture or create fun graphics, can be a useful skill across a range of jobs and industries. For example, photoshop is a great skill for production artists, graphic designers, photographers, and even teachers.

Driving Licence

If you’re applying for a job that requires you to move around frequently and come into the office, your employer may ask for a driving licence. Not only will this provide you a greater degree of autonomy, but it will also help you get your job done faster.

Time Management

Without great time management skills, you’ll struggle to keep on top of various competing priorities. Having this skill can help you reduce procrastination and boost your level of productivity at the same time. Let your employer know that you’re excellent at time management by adding this to your list of skills.

Proactiveness

Employers are constantly looking for proactive individuals that don’t need to be micromanaged every step of the way. As a hopeful candidate you should express that you are proactive in your endeavours. You can even illustrate examples of when you were proactive in your last role.

Language Skills

As the world becomes increasingly globalised, businesses of all sectors and sizes are communicating with international entities and audiences. Learning a language or being able to speak it fluently is an incredible achievement that many employers look for. However, make sure to include what level of understanding you have.

Written Communication

Most jobs require some level of written communication. This could entail sending emails, creating reports, or even taking notes at meetings. Therefore, if you are highly skilled in this domain, it’s worth making your abilities known, so make sure to include this on your CV.

When it comes to applying for jobs, don’t forget that consistency is key. Set yourself an achievable goal and try to apply to one job a day. Don’t forget to expand your horizons when it comes to searching for a new position. Rather than solely looking at one job board, look at a few. Reach out to companies you look up to and try to connect with potential employers through LinkedIn.
